Cornelia Travnicek was born in 1987 in St. Pölten, Lower Austria, and lives in Traismauer and Vienna. She studied sinology and computer sciences at University of Vienna. After college, she opened her own Bubble Tea bar.

In her spare time she undertakes lengthy journeys through Europe and Asia. For her novel Die Asche meiner Schwester, she received the Autorenprämie of the Ministry of Education, Art and Culture in 2008. In 2012 she was invited to the Ingeborg-Bachmann-Preis, where she received the Publikumspreis.
